Promiches and the Ministry of Environment Carry Out Beach Cleanup in Miches
The event was attended by the main provincial and municipal authorities.
The El Seibo-Miches Hotel and Tourism Association (Promiches), together with the provincial office of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, carried out a large-scale cleaning operation of approximately eight kilometers of coastline on Esmeralda beach, in the municipality of Miches, El Seibo province.
The operation was carried out within the framework of International Beach Cleanup Day and National Cleanup Day.
Gustavo A. Román, executive director of Promiches, during the opening of the activity, said that this day is a way to raise awareness about the impact that the lifestyle of the towns and mountains has on the health of the beaches and seas.
“It is an opportunity to integrate the ongoing coastal management work we do at Esmeralda beach with the companies and leaders of our community,” he said.
He asserted that he has witnessed the damage caused by improper waste management in homes and communities. He also emphasized the importance of individuals taking responsibility for their actions, as these can represent “an enormous contribution to the fight against the effects of climate change.”
For his part, the provincial director of the Environment, Carlos de la Rosa, stated that with the organization of this activity, the Ministry of the Environment is fulfilling a commitment made to the citizens and a clear directive from Minister Orlando Jorge Mera to work together with the communities in the “rescue” and maintenance of all spaces of high environmental value in the country, since the province of El Seibo “will be no exception.”
He also expressed his gratitude for the participation of the private sector, represented by Promiches, and the provincial government of El Seibo, for their logistical support.
The event was attended by key provincial and municipal authorities, including Governor Irene Martínez, the El Cedro district board, the Dominican Navy, the National Police, the Tourist Police, and the Dominican Republic Army.
As well as the provincial representation of the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Defense, Fire Department, Ministry of Public Works, among others.
