PROMICHES
Environmental Management
A destination growing in harmony with nature.
In Miches, environmental sustainability and community inclusion are essential components of our development vision. We aspire to consolidate the destination as an eco-luxury destination where nature, authentic experiences and a high-end tourism offering coexist in balance.
This commitment was formalized in the 2021 Public-Private Agreement for the Tourism Development of Miches, signed by Promiches and the Dominican Government, which establishes environmental management as one of the pillars of destination development.
As a result, the Playa Esmeralda Public-Private Management Roundtable was created, bringing together government, community and tourism-sector institutions and taking responsibility for the design and implementation of the Playa Esmeralda Management and Conservation Plan.
Since 2021, an interinstitutional technical team, with support from FUNDEMAR, GIZ and the IDB, has carried out studies that made it possible to design a management plan adapted to the unique characteristics of this ecosystem.
The plan was approved through Resolution 119-2024 of the El Cedro Municipal District and is being implemented by the members of the Playa Esmeralda Public-Private Management Roundtable.
We are currently working to evolve the Management Plan toward a co-management model for the southern segment of the Banco de la Plata y la Navidad Marine Mammal Sanctuary, with a Co-Management Council made up of the same stakeholders represented on the Management Roundtable, maintaining the efficiency demonstrated since 2021 under a stronger legal structure.
Playa Esmeralda Management and Conservation Plan
The Playa Esmeralda Management and Conservation Plan is a comprehensive document for managing the Playa Esmeralda Integrated Management Unit, covering 11 km of coastline and 33 km in total length.
