El Seibo–Miches Hotel and Tourism Association (Promiches) Created with the Participation of Minister Collado

With the participation of thirteen businessmen from the region, the first business institution for the development and positioning of the Miches tourist destination, Promiches, was created.

The new Hotel and Tourism Association of El Seibo and Miches (Promiches) is made up of: Yamil Isaías, of Development Sicuani; William Phelan, of Proyecto Tropicalia; Paola Mora, of Club Med Miches; José Ramón Astarloa, of Dreams/Secrets Costa Esmeralda; Frank Elías Rainieri, of Ciudad Esmeralda; George A. Nader, of Proyecto Maralda; José Blanco, of Viva Miches; Marcial Suárez, of Desarrollo Punta Hicaco; Jason Sees, of Agroindustrias Carlyle Sees; Giovanni Rainieri, of Corporación Celedín; Alfredo Guzmán, representative of Corporación Rivera del Yásica; Diego Aguayo, of Bahía Esmeralda; and Carl Carlson, of Inversiones Yubaso.

The institution promotes the establishment and growth of innovative and responsible businesses that protect and enhance the environmental and cultural diversity of the area, and that truly differentiate the national tourism offering, thus contributing to the social and economic development of the country.

In a recent working meeting, the members of Promiches received the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, who traveled to the town accompanied by his technical team, composed of: Patricia Mejía, Vice Minister of Destinations; Shaney Peña, Technical Director of Planning and Projects; Sixto Brea, Technical Director of CEIZTUR; Brenda Morales, Technical Director of CONFOTUR and the General Director of CESTUR, Brigadier General Pilot, Juan Carlos Torres Robiou, FARD; among other executives of the Ministry of Tourism.

“This first visit by Minister David Collado and his team is a great support for the private sector in Miches; demonstrating that the government is willing to listen to the priorities we must address together to develop a tourism model that is environmentally responsible and inclusive of the community,” said Héctor Garrido, representing Yamil Isaías, President of Promiches.

For his part, the Minister of Tourism valued the fact that a second generation has agreed to learn from the mistakes made in other destinations, and said he is fulfilling his task of reaching out to local communities to provide security to investors and businesspeople in the sector.

During the meeting, in which the needs of the municipality and opportunities for joint work in favor of the construction of this new tourist destination were discussed, the communities of La Mina de Oro and Hicaco Blanco were visited; as well as the surroundings of Costa Esmeralda beach and the Tropicalia project.

Promiches is comprised of thirteen members—promoters, operators, and landowners—whose projected investments total one billion one hundred and eighty million dollars (USD 1,180,000.00) for the development of 3,400 hotel rooms, 1,400 residential rooms, and the necessary infrastructure to maintain operations. In its first phase, these investments will generate 5,200 direct jobs, benefiting the municipality of Miches, the province of El Seibo, and the entire eastern region of the country. This will also diversify the national tourism offerings toward a sustainable luxury model and enhance the country’s competitiveness on the world stage.
